The Crew
Captain Dagfinn: A Lanun Pirate and Cleric of Tali, goddess of wind and freedom. He's a swashbuckler with a bad reputation, currently captain of the Ever Valiant. During his formative years he served under a bloody and bald cutthroat by the name of Erik the Hairless, learning everything he knew about seamanship. When Erik's cruelty was too much to witness, Dagfin prayed to Tali. An opportunity presented itself and Dagfin took his chance for freedom, worshiping Tali ever since. Before he ran away Dagfin stole from his old captain's stash a priceless treasure, so ancient even Erik was unsure of its nature or true value. Dagfin later learned from a druidess that the map was of the lost Aifon Isle, once home to Danalin's chosen people. When next they met Dagfin captured Erik's ship, who had finally turned legit running mundane cargo. Dagfin quickly cut Erik's throat. The captain also bears a hatred of the Undertow cult, often referring to them as "squid worshippers," having mentioned once a family member who joined and was lost to the cult's sinister clutches. The Captain dug deep and has found it within him to read books in an attempt to free his friend Journey from jail. After rounding up a new crew, he very generously allowed his friend, Guildmaster Meera, to use his first ship, the Salty Lass, in an attempt to head off a war. Upon his return to Cevedes, he found that the crew betrayed her and turned pirate. They have since recovered the ship, and aong with the Ever Valiant, Dagfinn has the makings of his own pirate fleet. Played by Mike.
Quimby: A bronze Dragonborn Paladin, he was born to a barbaric tribe of lizardmen. At some point during his youth he was recruited by a sect of the Cult of the Dragon, made entirely of fellow dragonborn. This group identified itself as the Ordo Draconum, a knightly order devoted to uncovering the secrets of their ancestors, the dragons. They believe the dragons were the highest forms of life on Erebus, and were a manifestation of true perfection. The Ordo Draconum believes that such perfect creatures must all at their core be benevolent, and one day they will uphold their vows to find their ancient ancestors and follow them into glory. Quimby himself is a generous soul, but has no qualms about violence when he deems it necessary. Recently, his order was destroyed by unknown agents. He suspects it was treachery from within, and has vowed to find out who the traitor was and why they destroyed the Ordo Draconum's secret temple. When he last journeyed their, all he found was a smoking ruin and a vial of dragonblood in the former Sanctum Sanctorum. On his travels Quimby has already found one lost member, a silver dragoness named Jass, and convinced her to join the crew of the Salty Lass, where he serves as First Mate. He has since suffered tragedy, losing Jass trying to rescue Journey, and discovered the identity of the traitor to his order. After the heroes commandeered a new ship called Ever Valiant, Dagfinn thought it best to make Quimby it's captain. Played by Kyle.
Vorn: A Svartalfar elf who sought to learn how to control his wild magic. Eventually he settled in the capital of the Amurite Republic, Cevedes, figuring a nation ruled by wizards could hold the key to mastering his magic. Managing to be accepted into the Academy of the Mage Guild, Vorn tried hard to learn wizardry but was failing miserably. A chance encounter with the Dweomer Guildmaster earned him employ as a spy. Since Vorn was quite often considered to be beneath any teacher’s contempt outside of the classroom, Guildmaster Meera found him a useful means of keeping tabs on her rival, the archmage Vargus, Headmaster of the Mage Academy. Vargus recently expelled Vorn, his cover blown when the archmage spotted him in Meera’s company at the Queen’s palace. After a trek through the hell city, Ciriail, Vorn became fed up with his conflicting identities. He revealed himself to be a Svartalfar spy, planted to collect information on Amurite goings on in Cevedes. Recently, his missions became conflicted with his morals. Vorn has turned his back on his family and nation to be free of the their manipulations and treachery, and now embraces the care-free life of a pirate. The crew has entrusted Vorn with the safe keeping of the Necronomicon, which they found in the Infernal conquered city of Ciriail. Played by Bob.
Andargo: A Malakim noble who's spent his fortune traveling far and wide chasing the criminal Howard, who stole a family heirloom and deflowered Andargo's daughter. After finally giving up the search, on a drunken bender in the Amurite city of Glorairane, fate seemingly put Andargo in the crew's way. A sewer collapsed, and Andargo rushed to help, finding himself rescued by Captain Dagfin from the inside of a gelatinous cube. Having recovered the family heirloom - an orb full of swirling smoke - from among Howard's belongings, he now feels compelled to journey with those who saved his life, and attempt to rebuild his family fortune. For some reason Andargo went on particularly severe bender, sleeping through the violent yet failed rescue of Journey. Andargo fell into a deep depression aboard the ship. For the better part of a year he searched for the thief that insulted his family’s honor, only to find all of that time - and much of his family’s wealth - spent in vain. The next six days at sea were drowned in rum. When the Salty Lass made port at Cevedes, Andargo wandered to the nearest dive he could find and continued drowning his sorrows. Deep into the evening and the bottle, a particularly enchanting woman approached him. When the lady of the night propositioned Andargo, he thought his worst problem might be a hangover or perhaps an unfortunate itch. When she took him to her room above the seedy tavern, one kiss was all it took to put Andargo under her spell. He awoke alone in a dungeon, chained to the wall. The woman revealed herself to be a Succubus. Andargo literally spent weeks locked in a dungeon. Time passed slowly for him as he was tortured purely for entertainment, and in ways only a Succubus would devise. In a serendipitous turn of fate, his former companions found him in the dungeon and freed him along with a fellow prisoner. That prisoner, through a surprising twist, was a cambion created by the pleasure demon who used Andargo's seed. Andargo now finds himself with another descendant, and this one a spawn of hell. Played by Joey.
Tristrem the Green: The son of a noble lord in the a prosperous Bannor city, he was the youngest of three brothers. Throughout Tristrem’s life, his father praised his older brothers their honor and strength. They were mighty warriors and brought great honor to their house on the fields of battle. Tristrem was then sent to the military academy where he excelled as an archer but due to his lack of interest failed to earn a command like the rest of his family. His father was deeply disappoint in him, and his brothers never let him forget his failure at the academy. Tristrem found within himself a deep seated need to prove he can earn glory in a different way, and do so without any help from his family.
Tristrem’s dream was to be a star on the stage. He wished to be like the great bards of old, a traveling entertainer. It was not the doing of great deeds which captured his imagination, but the telling of those deeds. His vision of glory and fame was recognition as a famous actor, not death on the battlefield.
After failing the academy, he spent much of his time alone. Eventually he left his family estate and disguised himself so as to travel the city as a commoner. He spent many a day interacting with the common folk. One night, disguised as an urchin, Tristrem was met a young woman who was not only beautiful but kind. He fell in love right then and there. Soon Tristrem revealed his true identity to her and she stayed by his side. However, when he introduced his beloved to his family they were disgusted to find him traipsing around with a woman below his station.
So Tristrem left his family that day with his beloved to the land of the Amurites. He earned entrance into the Amur College of Sages. Soon the honeymoon had ended, and the once wondrous magic of the Amurites had become part of his everyday life. Domesticity did not suit Tristrem well, and he spent more and more time in pubs and taverns listening to tales of travellers and stories of a wider world. Tristrem left his wife to sate his lust for adventure, promising to return to her one day.
Former Crew
Howard (deceased): This paranoid rogue hails from the realm of the Balseraph, where paranoia is often a virtue. Howard fled his dangerous home in hopes of finding a comfortable career of thievery in a much safer place. To accomplish this, he became a stowaway aboard the first ship he could find. When the crew overthrew its captain, Howard was far from the fighting. However, when it came time for looting he threw all caution to the wind. His astute eye came to be valued by Captain Dagfin, and Howard is now the ship's Lookout. He is the proud owner of an alabaster mask he stole off a sleeping noble at one of the many balls thrown by Balseraph nobles, which Howard is fond of wearing all the time. Sadly he met his end in an ancient barrow, having been eaten by pyre zombies. Played by Joey.
Zanth: Zanth is a half-Svartalfar thief and assassin found among the passenger's of the Salty Lass during its short stint under a mutineer captain. After a few tankards of ale the others were able to get him to open up about his past. His mother, a pure elf, was a member of a cult. She fell in love with his human father and gave birth to Zanth. When the cult found out, his mother and himself were condemned to sacrifice. Zanth’s aunt, who was also a cult member, couldn't bear the thought of losing her beloved sister and newborn child, so she plotted to escape with them. In the end the sister was only able to rescue Zanth, and never spoke of the cult or why she was unable to rescue his mother. His aunt fled with him as a baby far across a great ocean to the Amurite Republic. Once there, she plied her skills as a mercenary assassin and fell in with a criminal organization known as the Syndicate. His aunt raised Zanth to his teenage years, teaching him everything she knew, until one night a job went bad. Zanth was on his own, but made his way in the Syndicate using the skills he learned from his legendary aunt. He worships Arawn, god of the dead, as a way to honor her and his mother.
In addition to his skills, Zanth’s aunt passed on the haughtiness, racism, and vicious ruthlessness of the Svartalfar. Yet he lives by a peculiar code of honor. He stands by those who stand by him, protects women and children, and more or less has respect for authority (until they’re not looking). Zanth’s code is difficult. He feels what goes around comes around, and has no problem being the instrument of that balance. While he will try to do well for himself, he won't steal from his comrades (much), but also has a good side that is constantly warring with his upbringing and career.
His first job was finishing off the one that went badly for his aunt. He and his best friend, Dalwin - another half-elf living in a human society - was also a new member of the Syndicate. The pair were assigned to finish his aunt’s last job, but the two were on bad terms. Dalwin had just lost one of Zanth’s only possessions that belonged to his mother in a game of bones. The bad blood between them left Zanth unable to trust Dalwin to do his part, so he attempted the job on his own. While he was able to kill the wizard he targeted, Zanth was unable to escape unnoticed. The resulting crackdown by the authorities ended with Dalwin’s arrest and paying for a crime committed by Zanth, who had no problems hanging out to dry someone who betrayed him. Dalwin, though innocent of the crime Zanth let him pay for, was definitely guilty of breaking Zanth's code. The way he saw it, Dalwin paid in the end.
After travelling with the Captain Dagfinn, Zanth mysteriously disappeared. None know of his whereabouts.
Journey: He's a Druid born to a tribe of Tiefling refugees from Sheaim lands, who found safety in the Desert of Myrh and the land of the Malakim. Being a druid he was prone to wandering the desert for long stretches, and on one return journey he found his village ransacked and all his tribesmen murdered. Journey found in the ruins of his family's home a diary, and took what he thought was the last worldly tie to his family. Upon touching the diary, he received a vision of the great ocean and beyond, where he saw the fabled promised land of his people. Inspecting the diary closer, he found it was written in a code based on Infernal script. Journey has no idea why it was in his parents' possession. Having nothing left to stay for, he traveled south through Elohim lands and from their took a ship across the sea. Through a strange turn of events he currently finds himself to be the quartermaster on the Salty Lass, always accompanied by a magnificent pet hawk he calls Aesir. Recently, Journey was arrested in the Amurite Republic for possession of a Class 5 Forbidden Artifact. It turns out that his "diary" was in fact a ritual titled "The Elegy of Corruption," designed to summon hell on Erebos. With the help of his companions, Journey was able to prove himself innocent from the charges of espionage and extra-legal practice of dark arts. He now searches for the book, which seems to have been used to summon hell on Erebus and condemning an entire city. Journey was reunited with his book when Vorn revealed it had been in his possession for some time. The Archmage Govannon took it for safekeeping, hoping to find a way to unsummon the forces of hell. The heroes discovered a new magic tome, a flesh golem crafter's manual, which Journey takes great pride in once again owning a tome of great power. It seems the dangers Journey has survived are getting to him. Eventually madness took hold, and Journey stole the Salty Lass. Played by CJ.
Captain Dagfinn: A Lanun Pirate and Cleric of Tali, goddess of wind and freedom. He's a swashbuckler with a bad reputation, currently captain of the Ever Valiant.
